Ashim Ahluwalia (*1972, Bombay) studied Film at Bard College in New York State. In 1999, Ahluwalia set up Film Republic, dedicated to producing Indian independent cinema outside the traditional Bollywood system. A year later, Ahluwalia completed Thin Air, a documentary that followed the lives of three magicians against the backdrop of contemporary Bombay.
Melissa Mongiat’s approach revolves around participation by the public. Her creations have included a series of interactive environments for the Royal Festival Hall in London, for which /Wallpaper*/ magazine selected her as one of the world’s 10 most promising designers. She also stands out for her research projects in participative design.
The net jargon acronym BWPWAP – Back When Pluto Was a Planet is an expression used whenever one wants to talk about things in our recent past that have changed quickly. On August 24th, 2006, at the closing ceremony of their general assembly, the International Astronomical Union infamously voted in favor of “demoting” Pluto from its planetary status. transmediale 2013 suggested that this classification crisis, spurred on by new technologies and shifting knowledge paradigms, opens up a rich space of cultural negotiation and artistic intervention.
Between shiny high-tech, e-waste dumps, big data businesses and mass surveillance schemes: Under the title afterglow, the 27th edition of transmediale explored our present post-digital moment as one in which former treasures of our mediatised life are turning into trash. International researchers, artists and activists focused on the ambivalent condition of current digital culture, looking towards a future in which media technologies have become part of daily life, turning into physical and immaterial waste.

For this year's cooperation programme, CTM and transmediale present three special audiovisual performances in the HKW auditorium. Despite a diversity of approaches, the works performed by Lucky Dragons, Dinos Chapman, and Robert Henke all display a post-digital sensitivity to inter-media performance, which speaks to both CTM’s Dis Continuity and transmediale’s afterglow themes.
