First Night of transmediale.11!
First Night of transmediale.11!
The foyer of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt is already buzzing with the last minute preparations for the Opening Ceremony of transmediale.11 at 19:00. With the accumulation of its several festival zones, HKW has transitioned into an experimental laboratory for digital technologies.
After an introduction by Artistic Director, Stephen Kovats, along with Derrick de Kerckhove and his A.I. offspring Angel_F, followed by the A/V performance DUST by Herman Kolgen, transmediale.11 will officially boot up its power and open its exhibitions, workstations and installations, including the Open Zone and the HacKaWay Zone.
In the Open Zone, organizers of the Berlin-based collective of designers and craftivists, Kulturlabor Trial & Error, are assisting the Open Design City work station with their concept about open source materials. Basically, visitors are invited to use the various materials and tools – including tea bags, watercolor paints, Post-It notes and a sewing machine – to invent new creations as part of a collaborative cultural project. They’re even drilling carrot sticks that will be used as flutes in an open session at HKW’s Café Global tonight at 21:00. Bring your percussion instruments and join in the jam!
